Below is a summary of the Nursing Community Coalition’s (NCC) activity for the month of September.

Letter to Senate Appropriations Committee

The Steering Committee sent a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee thanking them for proposing $234.47 million for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and $155.21 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research in Fiscal Year 2018. These levels are higher than Fiscal Year 2017, and significantly higher than what was proposed by the House and the President’s Budget for this Fiscal Year.

Letter to Representative Suzanne Bonamici

The Steering Committee sent a letter to Representative Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) thanking her for submitting an amendment and a statement for the record in support of the Nursing Workforce Development Programs during the floor debate on the Fiscal Year 2018 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill.

Letter to House Energy and Commerce Committee

The Steering Committee sent a letter to the House Energy and Commerce Committee thanking them for hosting a hearing on September 14, 2017 titled “Supporting Tomorrow’s Health Providers: Examining Programs Under the Public Health Service Act.” Among the legislation discussed was the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2017 (H.R. 959).

 

Meetings

The NC held their monthly meeting on September 5, 2017 and 41 NCC organizations were present for the discussion.

External Presence

Reception with the Campaign for Action:  The Nursing Community Coalition cohosted a reception on September 20, 2017 with the Campaign for Action, an initiative of the AARP Foundation, AARP, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The reception was held to celebrate efforts to transform health and health care through nursing launched through the Future of Nursing report.
